Is the banning of TikTok really about protecting our national security or is it about controlling the flow of information and competition? The U.S. government claims the ban protects Americans, but in reality it’s just a censorship of what’s really going on. TikTok is more than just an app to scroll on for hours and for learning a new dance trend, it’s a go to platform for learning. Whether it’s for study hacks, mental health advice, homework help, college prep tips, etc. The app has helped thousands of small businesses promote their products and even boost their sales. Thousands of people rely on TikTok as their main source of income. So why take this away from 170 million Americans? If TikTok really wanted to steal the nation’s security, wouldn’t you think they would do it by now, all 170 million people swiped from their information?
Before TikTok was Tiktok it was called Musically which was founded in 2014 but rebranded in 2016, so technically Tiktok has been around for 11 years but since more people have discovered the app and has had more of a voice, government officials think this is the only solution is taking it away. They can find a “solution” to “protecting” our national security, but the government can’t find a solution to protect the children in schools from school shootings or protect their citizens in general from gun violence which has been a problem for years on end.
Or what if this was a publicity stunt done by President Trump? We all know he didn’t have the best reputation on TikTok getting bashed by many many adults, teens, anyone who voiced their opinion on him. I could see this as a publicity stunt because both the pop up messages that appeared on TikTok the beginning of the ban and after the banning include President Trump’s name. The messages stated, “We are fortunate that President Trump has indicated that he will work with us on a solution to reinstate TikTok once he takes office” and when it came back another message stated “As a result of President Trump’s effort, Tiktok is back in the U.S!” But wasn’t Trump’s Admission the ones who wanted TikTok banned? There’s a lot more to the TikTok ban that we don’t know about, but how long again before the app is threaten to get banned again or even token away permanently.
