HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) is selling t-shirts with the hope of increasing breast cancer awareness and representing these warriors. With the money they raise from this event, 50 percent of their funds will go towards supporting breast cancer programs in Georgia. This will help emphasize the importance of proactive screening and generating funds in the search for a cure.
“We hope to make an impact on the Marietta Community by spreading awareness around the school and the surrounding area. By educating people, they are more likely to support and give back to the breast cancer community, by acts as simple as purchasing a t-shirt from Marietta HOSA,” HOSA advisor Amanda Barrett said.
Bringing awareness to this cause can open more opportunities for more funding towards research and support.
“We first began selling breast cancer awareness t-shirts last year, and we raised about $2400, 50 percent of which went to support breast cancer programs in the state through the Georgia Alliance for Breast Cancer. This year, we’re hoping to raise even more money, continuing to support breast cancer warriors,” Barrett said.
Not only do the t-shirt sales help raise awareness, but they also provide researchers with the appropriate funds to continue their search for a cure.
“With my mom’s recent battle with breast cancer and finishing her chemo in July of this year, this fundraiser hits close to home. I am so happy that Marietta HOSA can do something tangible to help support all of our Blue Devil warriors,” Ms. Davis said.
By showing support for this event, families of patients feel supported and thankful for such a giving and considerate community.
“We don’t have a specific goal in mind; we just want patients to feel supported,” Barrett said.
HOSA’s goal is to raise awareness of the issue, in addition to raising more money to continue researching breast cancer. Simply buying a t-shirt for $20 aids HOSA in helping those with breast cancer. If students missed out on purchasing a t-shirt, there are more opportunities to help out. On October 29th, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., HOSA is hosting a blood drive in the seminar room. Students are more than welcome to donate and show support, with the permission of a parent or guardian.
