Chalktoberfest is an event held at Marietta Square once a year, one weekend in October for people to come across Georgia to show off their artistic skills, with the use of chalk on the streets of the Square. At Marietta, the National Art Honors Society(NAHS) enters the contest with this year being the 5th. Members in NAHS come together to create ideas for their piece that is worked on by each member at a chance to win.
Q&A Ms.Robinson (NAHS Advisor)
How do you guys come up with your design ideas for Chalktober?
The designs are based on the ideas and concepts of NAHS members. The ideas can be motivated from themes which include October, the Marietta community, or pop culture. How long does it take at Chalktober to finish the piece?
We have a time limit of two hours to finish the design, the squares are 5x5ft and NAHS members will grid out the drawing before they start chalking.
What does the winner win?
A certificate, gift card, and bragging rights.
The National Art Society is open to all students of Marietta High School. Students come together with different styles of art to help bring themselves and their community together through art. NAHS provides opportunities to meet peers who share common passions for art making, students are also provided with multiple opportunities to earn volunteer hours that count towards CAS hours and/or a graduation cord. Chalktober isn’t the only project that this group focuses on, such as their upcoming project of a collaborative piece that will hang in the MPAC Lobby.
