President Donald Trump assumed office on Jan. 20 and promised to sign more than 200 executive orders on his first day. At the time of this publication, he has signed 170 into effect. President Trump still has orders to complete.
It is important to know the current political climate at this stage of his presidency, so here is a recap of some executive orders and social media presence so far this term.
Social Media
In addition to his activity politically, President Trump has been very active on social media, sharing his political goals, opinions, and progress on apps like X and Truth Social. He is continuing to update followers every day on multiple platforms like Twitter, Instagram, and his own social media app, Truth Social.
President Trump created the platforn Truth Social after originally being banned from Twitter and Instagram after the January 6 riots and criminal indictments he had faced in 2021. When reinstated on the other platforms, the president agreed that he would post first on Truth Social and not post on other social media apps until six hours after an original post on Truth Social.
He also created the technology group TMTG (Trump Media & Technology Group), which manages the app. Recently, NYSE Texas, a new stock exchange to further support of the rising number of businesses in Texas and draw more attention towards the state, opened with TMTG being the first listing to debut.
On Truth Social he continues to state some of his executive orders he plans to put into place. President Trump also has stated his hopes for Canada to become a US state. Wondering why America spends billions of dollars towards Canadian subsidies, President Trump stated the benefits of Canada becoming a state. However, the Canadian government has not taken him seriously.
Threats of high tariffs and economic wars are frequent on his Truth Social account, specifically towards China, Canada, and Mexico. Canada and Mexico have retaliated with more tariffs back towards the US in response.
The Office of Digital Strategy manages the president’s social media and the White House social media account. @whitehouse has 8.3 million followers on Instagram compared to 33.1 million @realdonaldtrump

The image of President Trump as a king is an example of the @whitehouse social media account from Feb. 19, 2025. The White House account posted an illustration that likened Trump to a king.
The post read as follows:
“CONGESTION PRICING IS DEAD. Manhattan, and all of New York is SAVED. LONG LIVE THE KING,” – President Donald J. Trump.
Over 68,000 comments were made on Instagram.
Abolishing DEI
Among the most notable executive orders signed so far was the one regarding DEI policies in governmental programs. Starting in the 1960s, DEI encouraged fairness and advocated for equal opportunities for those in minority communities. The new order aims to prohibit efforts to use programs that encourage Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in hiring processes, grant approvals and distribution, and education. However, the executive order cannot affect civil rights laws that are already in place. For example, the executive order cannot harm government programs that help fight against discrimination, such as the Fair Housing Initiative Program, which assists victims of housing discrimination.

Creation of DOGE
On his first day in office, President Trump signed an executive order creating the Department of Government Efficiency, headed up by Tesla owner Elon Musk. The new department has the mission of helping to modernize Federal technology in order to increase efficiency. This is not necessarily a new department, but a rebranding of the previous United States Digital Service and an establishment into the executive office. The department is also in charge of getting rid of government spending that President Trump has deemed wasteful, such as the Defense Civilian Human Resources Management System and the Federal Consulting Group.
Dismantling the Department of Education
Most recently, President Trump has signed an order dismantling the Department of Education. Founded in 1979 during the Carter administration, the department was created to support students and further educational opportunities for Americans by helping to make education access more equal across the country. The department provides funding for elementary, secondary, and post-secondary education. The steps President Trump plans to take is by encouraging the Secretary of Education to take further steps to close the Department of Education, as well as terminating DEI programs and gender ideology programs that the Department of Education previously funded. Legally, the only way to fully get rid of the department would be by an act of Congress.
What’s Next?
President Trump’s new policies can have an impact on Marietta. Special education programs and student services like counseling are supported by DEI policies put into place within the district.
The creation of DOGE has also had a significant impact on people. Many controversies have occured after the department was newly created such as the large amount of firings and layoffs.
Weakening the DO impacts teachers and families throughout Marietta. While curriculum standards are already up to the states and local government, the department handles many federal matters to further support students. Students may have problems receiving student aid such as FAFSA. In Marietta, federal funding from the DOE is used to provide assistance and fund programs such as free or reduced lunch program. Up to 45 percent of the economically disadvantaged families in the school district may struggle as they rely on this funding.
