The MHS track team is full of dedicated and hardworking members. Throughout the season they practice and compete, striving for a faster times and broken records. Part of their success comes from the condition of their bodies. During conditioning, they train their bodies for success and invest all their energy into their sport. They train many parts of their bodies so they can be the best they can be.
David Nwigwe is a sophomore in track and field. This is his second year participating in the sport, and his fastest time is 11.53 seconds in the 100m and 23.93 seconds in the 200m. David joined track because of his love for the sport, and his desire to run for the Olympics one day. He says track and field challenges your body to push through the competition and be the best you can be.
“There are times where the sport gets hard, but I just listen to music to put me in the right headspace,” David Nwigwe said.
Ultimately the team is what makes up the sport. They come together to showcase their skills and represent their schools.
“The teammates are the best part of track, we’re all pretty close and share a common interest in our sport,” Nwigwe said.
Jorden Reddrick is also a senior in track and field. He started track freshman year at Pope High School where the track coach insisted he run, then he transferred to MHS and finished what he started.
“My favorite thing about track and field is that regardless of event, mark, skill level, etc. everyone in the sport has a mutual respect for each other’s craft,” Jorden Reddrick said.
Reddrick values the sportsmanship that’s experienced in the sport. Reddrick says he always strives to be better than he was the day before when he runs and the team work very hard for their sport.
“Though we like to have fun, we’re the hardest working track team in the state of Georgia. I don’t think any other team rivals our work ethic and dedication not only as athletes but also as coaches,” Reddrick said.
Track and field is a family at MHS. They work together and dedicate their time and energy to be the members strive for greatness the way they do.
